Q. How do I get a library card?
A. If you are a resident of Colleton County or own property in the county,
you may sign up for a library card by completing a short application and
showing a picture identification which includes the name and Colleton County
address of the applicant. Should your picture ID not contain your correct
address, a piece of mail with current Colleton County address may be used.
Persons living outside of Colleton County who do not meet the above
requirements may pay a $15 annual non-resident fee for a library card.
Q. How old do you have to be to obtain a library card?
A. You may get a library card at any age. If a child is 17 or younger, a
parent/guardian’s signature is required.
Q. If my library card is lost, how do I obtain another card?
A. There is a $2 charge to obtain a new library card and you must show
current information & identification.
Q. How many items may be borrowed from the library per card?
A. While there is not a current limit to total number of items that can be
checked out, we ask that you please limit to 3 or 4 the number of books
per subject and author due to our small collection. DVDs and videos may be
checked out for 7 days with a limit of 3 per patron. Three periodicals per
patron may be checked out for three days. Graphic novels checkout for 7 days
with a limit if 5 per card.
Q. How long may I keep library materials?
A. Normal checkout for books/audio books is for 3 weeks. Videos/DVDs for
3 days. Periodicals for 3 days. Graphic novels for 7 days.
Q. May I renew items by phone?
A. You may renew items by phone (843-549-5621) provided you call prior to or on the date
due. In addition, you may access your library account online at our website
("My Account") to renew books or put holds on materials currently checked
out by establishing a PIN number. You may sign up for your PIN number at the
circulation desk in the library.
Q. What if the item I want is checked out or at another branch
location?
A. You may place a book, audio or video on hold. See above for information
on securing a PIN number to do this online at our web site.
Q. How much are overdue fines?
A. Fines are $ .10 per day per item with a maximum of $5.00 per book fine.
Videos/DVDs are $.50 per day per item with a maximum fine of $5.00 per item.
Q. How much does the library charge for photocopies?
A. The library charges $.20 per page for photocopies and $.40 per page for
color photocopies.
Q. How much does the library charge for faxes?
A. Outgoing faxes are $1.00 per page and $.50 per page for toll free
numbers. Incoming faxes are $.50 per page.
Q. Can I search the Library’s catalog even if I am not at the
Library?
A. Yes, the Library’s online catalog can be accessed from any computer. Just
go to our web page at
www.colletonlibrary.org
enter an author, title, or subject in one of the search boxes, and click Go.
You can also see what materials you have checked out and place holds on
materials through the catalog.

- Damaged or lost books are charged to your library card at the
replacement cost or, if the replacement cost is not available, a
standard library replacement cost determined each year.
